End of An Era

Sadly on April 2007, the 66 year old Empire Rollerdrome in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, finally closed its doors! The landmark skating rink was known to be the birthplace of Roller Disco and last remaining rink in NYC.

Clear the Floor!!

You just gotta Love the DJ spaceship booth! The magical neon octagon that sparkled bright white and pink lights was the centerpiece for roller rinks across America. The booth like the one at United Skates of America,(Brooklyn, NY)was the spot to make your song requests or hear the DJ announce "All Skate," "Ladies Only," "Trio," or "Clear the Floor!"

Remember When....

Freestyle is also sometimes referred to (sometimes disparaging) as "rollerskating music" due to its prevalence in roller rinks. In Miami (where Freestyle is largely prevalent), Freestyle is sometimes called "Hot Wheels music" after the Hot Wheels roller rink (now changed to "Super Wheels") in Miami was popular for playing Freestyle. The F.C. wants to bring back those lost days of hanging at the roller rinks and NY hot clubs like the Heartthrob, Palladium, 1018, FunHouse and the Devils Nest. Help relive those days by sharing your memories or sending photos.
